FCCPTA Invited to Participate on FCPS Calendar Feedback Committee

When will school start in the fall of 2022? How much training time will teachers and staff receive? What holidays will be recognized? The work to answer these questions and many others is gearing up, and FCCPTA has a seat at the table.

The FCPS Calendar Feedback Committee includes parents as a key stakeholder along with FCPS staff, students, associations and the faith-based community. Parents are represented by both Fairfax County Council PTA (FCCPTA) and the Fairfax County Special Education Parent Teacher Association.

Board Member Cheryl Napoli will represent FCCPTA. Cheryl is a parent of two FCPS students and a former two term President at Westlawn Elementary School PTA, a Title I school in Falls Church.

"I look forward to serving on this committee, there are so many stakeholders that need to provide input, and every choice related to the calendar has positives and negatives. I hope to provide a needed perspective and an open mind to heal all the options."

The FCPS Calendar Committee meets virtual on the following dates:

Wednesday, November 11 at 4:30pm.

Wednesday, December 1 at 4:30pm.

Following the work of the committee, the rest of the calendar develop timeline is:

> December 13-17: Calendar drafts reviewed by FCPS leadership.

> January 11: Draft calendars discussed at School Board work session.

> January 13: Calendar drafts presented at School Board meeting as New Business. Opportunity for public comment.

> January 27: School Board votes on final calendar during their regularly scheduled meeting, with an opportunity for public comment.

> Calendar in effect from July 1,2022 to June 30, 2023.

(these dates subject to change)
