SPECIAL EDUCATION

FCPS is home to 27,000+  students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP) and their families. The FCCPTA Executive Board includes many of these families who walk this road every day. Additionally, FCCPTA is home to a unique local unit, the Fairfax County SEPTA.

Our board and members are also heavily involved in the work of ACSD. Learn about both below.

SPECIAL EDUCATION PTA (SEPTA)

Fairfax County is fortunate to  have one of its 160+ local units dedicated to address the unique needs of special education, special needs, and disabled students and families.

Founded by two local parents of special needs students in 2016 and chartered in 2017,  SEPTA has developed into a nationally award winning force with a tremendous reputation.

Like all local units, SEPTA empowers and connects families, but their focus is on students with disabilities. They offer unit membership like every other local unit and have extensive programming, advocacy, resources and events designed with these families in mind.

FCCPTA and SEPTA work very closely together, and SEPTA has a seat on the FCCPTA Board and vice-versa. SEPTA and FCCPTA volunteers partner on many initiatives and populate many of each other's committees.

ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITIES (ACSD)

The ACSD is a state mandated Special Education Advisory Committee (SEAC).  Learn more about the role of FCCPTA on the ACSD here.
