The officers of the Fairfax County Council PTA (FCCPTA) condemn the language used by FCPS School Board Member Karen Keys-Gamarra during the school board meeting on October 20, 2022. This language is hurtful, derogatory and has no place in our society or school system. It is especially critical that those elected to lead our schools model exemplary language at all times.
The FCCPTA’s mission is to advocate for all of our students and families and use of this type of language is not in line with our mission or values. We hope that when these instances arise, the FCPS School Board follows its policies and procedures to address them.
FCCPTA encourages and seeks to be part of critical conversations in our larger community so we can better navigate future situations with appropriate behavior and compassionate word choices.
