FCCPTA supports the focus of the FCPS proposed FY2019 budget – its teachers – FCCPTAPressReleaseFY2019ProposedBudgetFINAL. Dr. Scott Brabrand release his first proposed budget of his tenure on January 11. FCPS continued priorities are Portrait of a Graduate outcomes, closing achievement gaps, starting the school year with a qualified teacher in every classroom, and ensuring teacher pay reaches the market average. FCPS continues to face budgetary challenges associated with increased student enrollment and employee benefits.
It is important to note that Fairfax County Public Schools is the largest school system in the Commonwealth and 10th largest in the nation with 188,000+ students. It also has the largest school bust fleet transporting more than 130,000 students on over 1,600 buses each day.
The Fairfax County School Board has scheduled a public hearing on January 29 (30-31 if needed) to hear from families and residents about the proposed budget. FCCPTA urges its members to reserve speaking slots to tell their stories about how the budget will affect their students, teachers, families, and communities.
FCCPTA looks forward to working with the Fairfax County School Board and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors to ensure Fairfax County maintains a world-class education system for its students, teachers, families, and businesses.
The Fairfax County is scheduled to release its FY2019 Advertised (Proposed) Budget, which includes the county general fund transfer to FCPS, on February 20.
