Middle school should start earlier than high school. With high school having the latest start time.
10:50 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
That is late for middle school.
08:52 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
Middle schools should open 9-9:20. As an elementary substitute, I would have to
leave my soon-to-be middle schooler at home alone to catch the bus on time. Ditto when she starts high school. Don't like the idea of leaving pre-teens/teens al
one.
09:08 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
The proposed Middle School schedule is the same as my younger son's current Elementary School schedule - which is great because he can sleep in, but makes after
school sports practices impossible to arrive on time...
09:19 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
Earliest start is 7:50. Latest start is 9:40. Move all times earlier by 20 min resulting in 7:30- 9:20 window.
09:25 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
Middle schools starting earlier and ending earlier
09:27 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
Start ALL the elementary schools earlier and get the middle schoolers out by 4pm
.
09:53 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
Hogh Schools start at 8:15 and middle schools start at the same time
09:56 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
Even though I answered 'C' I am going to remark here. Middle school starting th
at late would be hard on families with two working parents. I fear kids would s
kip school.
10:41 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
Middle schools should start between 8:00 and 9:00 am
10:42 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
Start High school last.
11:03 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
I cannot have my elementary school kids home at 230pm. I think the middle school
change is great but I can NOT approve of the high shcool change. Sports and afer school activities would be ADVERSELY affected.
11:13 PM Thursday, June 05, 2008
High School should starts between 9:20-9:40 since they have a tons of after school clubs and sports. They can start extra activities immediately after school.
07:02 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
High School to start 7:45 to 8:15. Middle School to start 8:00 to 8:30.
07:43 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
no starts before 8 a.m., no ends after 3:30
07:48 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
A high school start between 8:35 and 8:55 is better than the current time. 9:20-
9:40 would be better still. Elementary and middle school start times could remain as they are now. In elementary and middle school my daughter had little trouble getting to school on time. The problem, which has been severe, started in high
school.
08:20 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Re: Elementary School - I see no later start time, which is good. Please keep
it as is! Re: Middle School and HS, why does it have to be so late? Is there
a middle ground to start times or is it a busing issue? Seems that Middle School starts are awfully late in my opinion.
08:20 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Pushing Middle Schools back to the latest start and end times would be difficult
. I would like to see Middle School and High School on the same schedule -- 8:35
start and 3:15 end.
09:53 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
While I do think the current schedule is too early I am concerned with all of the after school activities it would simply move everything later in the day and would not give the students more time for sleep.
09:55 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
I think the 4-4:30 release time for middle school is too late. It puts the buses in the early part of rush hour & makes the schedule for other activities too tight. At this age, Scouts, religious instruction & sports practices are in the
evening hours, some starting as early as 5:oo, so there will be timing issues.
There will also be ravenous appetites as adolesence is a period of significant growth spurts.
09:56 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Still too early
10:01 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
don't listen to the people whining about time for high school sports! at Madison
, there are limited fields, so students return to school for practice later. my
daughter often had lacrosse 6 pm to 8 pm, and we liked that, she could come home
after school, eat, do homework, then go to practice.
10:05 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
I think the MS starts too late although I dod not know how to juggle things to f
ix that!
10:18 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Have the high schools start the latest because those are the kids that sleep more in the mornngs.
10:22 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
The ending time for middle school seems too late in the afternoon. Not enough time for homework and after-school activities. I understand the issue with staggering the buses, but is there any way not to have the middle schools end so late
?
10:36 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Middle school start seems late, many parents still see their kids off to the bus
before leaving for work. Also, the late day would interfere with after school
activities and homework.
10:55 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Elementary school shoudl start between 7:45a.m. and 8:15a.m. This will save a lot of students from attending the morning SACC. That means savings for parents...
Thanks!
11:24 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
The school should start at or after 9:00am
11:35 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Middle school schedule can start earlier, ie. b/t 8:00 - 9:00 am. ES and HS school seems just right.
11:37 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Something must be done so that TJHSST students do not have to get up so early to
get to the base HS to catch their TJ shuttle. Though TJ starts late, my girl must be at bus by 6:55
11:41 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Start HS not later than 8:00
11:41 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Middle School for Frost/Woodson should be sync'd
11:46 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Too early a start time for elementary school. Currently it corresponds to my pre
schooler's schedule perfectly, so changing it would have a big impact in our household.
11:51 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
The middle school bell time should be around 9 also.
11:53 AM Friday, June 06, 2008
Try and have middle school and high school end around the same time. 4:30 is to
o late.
12:02 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Middle school should start a little earlier and end a little earlier.
12:30 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Start times should be 15-45 minutes earlier so that the end time should be close
r to 3:00 for afterschool activities that most teens are in. Afterschool practices/classes often start at 4:00 and having a 4:00 OR 4:30 END TIME would result i
n many parents getting their kids out for early dismissal. You know they will no
t give up afternoon sports!
12:31 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
I would think that it would be best to have the high school students start the earliest - earlier than middle school students.
12:36 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Middle school starts TOO late and ends too late.
12:44 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Elementary School needs to start later, such as around 9AM. Current start time i
s too early for young kids. My boy has complained many times.
12:45 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
I would switch the start times of the high schools and middle schools.
12:47 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
switch middle and hight school schedule. Middle school starts start between 8:35
am and 8:55 am
01:04 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Having school end as late as 4 or 430 doesn't give children enough afternoon time to complete homework.
01:10 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Too late for Middle school kids, should switch with elementary school starting time.
01:10 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
No one start before 9:30
01:30 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Middle School starts too late.
01:51 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Switching the proposed HS times with the MS ones.
02:32 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Our school starts at 8:55 already, so that is not a change for us. I feel my children start too late and are in school too late in the day.
02:33 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
I think the Middle Schools will be starting too late.
02:33 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
A 4:00 to 4:30 end time for middle schoolers seems late considering that there i
s still homework and after school activities to fit into their day
02:37 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Starting middle school earlier, i.e., similiar hours as HS.
02:46 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Elem school should start 8:00 to 9:00. Middle school 9 to 9:30. HS could be 9
to 9:30 except for after school sports, correct? How about optional classes for
athletes early?
03:10 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
HAving middle school start between 9:20 and 9:40 is too late.
03:48 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
I would hope my kids' elementary schools start times stay the same. I cannot im
agine them waking up any earlier. I would probably end up driving them both to
school if they could not make the earlier bus times.
03:49 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Why should middle school start so late, when so many students have sports commit
ments after school, which thus gives them no time to complete daily homework res
ponsibilities?
03:55 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
high school should start the latest
04:05 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
TJ's situation is different from other schools
04:29 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
I am in favor of HS students getting more sleep, but younger children need even
more sleep than older children. Short of putting my young children to bed witho
ut homework/dinner/reading, I'm not sure how they would get enough sleep with an
earlier start schedule than the HS students. 7:50 is simply too early. Plus,
they would have to wait for the bus in the dark in the winter.
05:06 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
The highschoolers need the latest start time.
05:07 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
All school times should start & end, as close as possible, to the same 8:35 to 8
:55 & 3:15-3:45
05:58 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Proposed starting times for middle schools are way too late. Also, I think that
high schools should start about 8 a.m.
06:07 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Being sure traffic flow would be improved or minimally impacted
06:59 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Middle school should start about 8:30; High school at 9am.
07:03 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
change high school times and possibly elementary times, but Middle Schools endin
g at 4-4:30 before the bus ride home is way too late, especially for after schoo
l sports and activities
07:55 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
I suggest that elementary schools be started later rather than Middle School sin
ce in that event working parents could then use morning SACC. Bus pick-up times
after 8:30 make it difficult for working parents to get to work before 9:30 and
certainly not by most work place start times which in the Washington metro area
is usually 8:30.
08:33 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Start all elementary schools earlier.
09:07 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
More buses, though expensive, would keep any kids from having to get up so early
09:26 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
Start Middle School earlier - like the proposed high school times
09:27 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
high school should start the latest based on my children's natural sleep needs a
nd growing scientific evidence regarding teen brain development and sleep needs
09:47 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
I think they should be in the High School by 8 and home by 3:30. With the amount
of homework they get it's best for them to be settled at home by 4. Then they c
an get started with their work by 5. They should be able to come home settle in
eat some thing and get started on their homework before 5. Then they can settle
for a good night rest or have some tv/relaxing time before bed before 10 PM. Th
ey are getting up like an adult going to work & then they have more work to do w
hen they get home it's to much pressure for them and the parent.
09:58 PM Friday, June 06, 2008
consider sports and band type commitments
ld be reduced to 1hr 30 min each, shortening the periods but by an insignificant
amount of time which adds no quality to the educational experience. this would
also allow for the school day to be slightly shortened, allowing for a slightly
earlier dismissal and more time allotted for after school activities like sports
, band, and homework, while allowing for extra sleep.

07:42 AM Sunday, June 08, 2008
FInd some ways to make elementary school on the late side of the suggested sched
ule. I SUPPORT making junior and high school later.
10:03 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Middle schools should start earlier than between 9:20 am and 9:40 am.
10:34 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
hs start at 7:55 and end at 3:10
07:14 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Middle school should end earlier than 4-4:30pm. The buses need to get rolling e
arlier to avoid the worst of rush hour, and the late end will also interfere wit
h sports practices.
07:44 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
If high schools were in the latest group, then they would have time before schoo
l for sports practices.
08:20 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
The middle schoolers need to be home after school before the elementry schoolers
.
08:20 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
While I think the high schools should start a little later, I can't see middle s
chool students getting home after 4pm.
08:49 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Perfect would be Elementary bus pick up between 7:15 and 8:15 for 8:30 start, Mi
ddle School pick up between 8:15 and 9:15 for 9:30 start, and HS pick up between
6:45 to 7:45 for 8:00 start.
09:30 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Kids getting home at 4:30 means very little time to do homework and still have t
ime with family or to do any recreation. The kids would be little school machin
es.
10:17 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
This is too late a start for middle schools (for kids to get to afternoon activi
ties.)
10:19 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
I think ALL elementary schools should start at the earlier times and ALL high sc
hool and middle schools later, with no school starting later than 9:20 or ending
later than 4:00 pm, due to after school activities.
10:24 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
High School should start the latest of all 3 types of schools.
11:25 AM Saturday, June 07, 2008
can the middle school and the high school have the same start times by increasin
g buses and give the elementary a start the later start time of 8:55.
12:11 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Have highschool start between 8:25 and 8:45 am..
en 8:35 and 8:55 am ..
12:48 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Middle school stating between 8:30 and 9
02:49 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Middle school should stgart a little earlier.
04:15 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Elementary schools should start between 8:30 and 8:55. No earlier than 8:30 bec
ause children would be rushed and not eat a healthy breakfast. No later than 8:
55 because I feel 4:00 is too late for an elementary child to get home in order
to do homework and attend sport/music practices.
05:38 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
For combined high schools and middle schools like Hayfiled you should have the s
ame start time. It decreases the number of buses for each route. Also when you
have a child in each then they leave at the same time.
06:24 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
later start times, especially for high school students. based on scientific data
, it has been shown that HS students do better in class and are able to attend a
nd concentrate better later in the mornings. However, my children go to sleep at
7:30pm and awaken at 6:30am so i have time to dress and feed and get them on th
e bus. i also know my child is EXHAUSTED by 3pm and has HATED preschool after a
week of waiting and coming home at 4pm!! I may choose to pick her up by CAR bec
ause she will be coming home too late on the bus. I want her to enjoy Kindergard
en experience and eel this LATE and LONG day will impede that process.
07:58 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
I would time the schools as high school starting first, followed by elementary,
then middle schools. Some high schoolers will have jobs, whereas the middle sch
oolers don't. But, since some parents rely on an older sibling to watch an elem
entary school sibling, having the HS kids come home first would aleviate some af
ter school daycare issues.
08:07 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
I like the current schedule becausemy daughter gets enough time to do after scho
ol programs or ev4en if she has to stay late to get extra help from any teacher,
still she gets home by 5 Pm which will give enough time to do the home work and
do her routine things and still go to sleep by 10:30.
08:23 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Middle schools should not end after 4 pm. That is too late for after school act
ivities.
10:29 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
My fourth grader will be attending Sunrise Valley in the fall, so my answers wou
ld change somewhat.
10:56 PM Saturday, June 07, 2008
Later start time for Elementary if it is before 8:45am.
11:18 AM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Stagger them based on clusters, except we don't have a clean or logical cluster
in the western part of the county. The school professionals need to drive this
decision rather than the parents or school board. We do not need another mishan
dled situation like the redistricting of this year. Ask the teachers their opin
ions, too since they actually know about kids and times that they learn best.
11:50 AM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Switch middle school and high school. I have issues around safety leaving my mi
ddle schooler at home alone in the morning after I leave for work.
01:36 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
That's a REALLY late start time for the middle schools. Does this mean that the
re are schools that start this late now? That's very late. It makes for a very
long day. My middle schooler would have a hard time getting homework done - be
cause he has an active evening schedule. He still relies on us to help him. We
can't stay up late (just cause he would be able to).
02:10 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
I don't really know how to improve it, other than for fairfax County to provide
more funding for transportation. When my middle school son stays after, he id fi
nished at 3:30. If he were to take the late buses, he would not be home until 5
:00. Assuming the same circumstances, if he stayed after under the proposed pla
n, he would finish at school at 5:30 and wouldn't be home until 7 PM. That just
isn't acceptable.
03:05 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Bus rides are longer for more high school students than elementary students. Wi
ll rush hour traffic adversely impact the length of time high school students ar
e on the bus or will buses adversely impact rush hour traffic patterns?
03:27 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Elementary schools should start the latest, not middle school. It is easier for
older kids to get up earlier. Elem. should start at 9:20- 9:40, middle at 8:35
- 8:55, and high school at 7:50 - 8:55.
03:33 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Why would you have the elementary schools start early, then kids go to middle sc
hool and get used to sleeping in and going later, then they move to high school
and have to get up early again. That make no sense. The kids who need the most
help with the sleep are elementary school kids.
03:42 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
High schools should start around 830 a.m. and end at 315. Sports programs will
be effected greatly if the high schoolers get out much later than that.
06:16 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Middle schools in this area do not provide middle school sports. It is fairly e
asy for high schools to go to there sports after school because they are general
ly the same place. With the later start times at the middle school the kids wil
l be rushing to get home to "maybe get dinner" before going off to practices/gam
es. I know this is extra-scholastic activity but because the sports are not pro
vided by the schools it is something that needs to be taken into account.
06:54 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
grades 7 - 12 start late
08:33 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
The problem with the current schedule is the buses pick the kids up from school
and they have extra early time in the am - if you go later then the sports progr
am goes too late for homeworkl
08:41 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Elementary needs to start earlier!
08:59 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Middle school is a bit too late. Getting out at 4:30 and getting home at 5:30 (
in rush hour) will make all after school activities non-existent. They can't go
in 1 hour early (like many elem schools have for activities) because they are n
ot reachable during rush hour. It would take us 1 to 1.5 hour round trip for a m
orning drop off.
09:23 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
I think the middle schools should start earlier than the high schools. Under th
e proposal, my son would spend most mornings at home by himself; I'd rather he d
o so in high school rather than middle school.
09:30 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Starting Middle School between 9:20 and 9:40 is too late. Better to have it 8:0
0 am to 8:20 am.
09:31 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Parents are at work in the mornings and afternoon -- late middled school start t
ime would leave students alone at home in the mornings and again in the afternoo
ns.
09:39 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Middle Schools should start around 8-8.30am and end around 3-3.30pm
09:41 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Guarantee elementary schools would not start before 8:30am
09:48 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
I agree high school is too early but do not think elementary school kids should
be catching the bus at 7am.
10:11 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
I think that all elementary schools need to start earlier, not just a few of the
m. I know I'm in a minority with my situation: I'm a former FCPS high school t
eacher who is staying at home with three young children. I won't go back to tea
ching for FCPS at a high school until the schedule is more reasonable and doesn'
t cause such an unreasonable logistical hardship for my family. Right now, all
the high schools start two hours earlier than my son's elementary school. I hav
e a husband who is an attorney, who works long hours and is in court around the
country a lot. If I went back to teaching at a FCPS high school, it would neces
sitate an extraordinary amount of help (probably live-in) or before school SAC f
or both kids on top of full-time daycare for the youngest. It's just crazy. Th
e schedule is almost impossible to work around for so many parents because of th
e late start time for elementary schools. It needs major revamping. Other area
s of the state (where I've taught before) are not this problematic.
10:12 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Middle school should start little earlier
10:14 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
I think elementary school should begin earlier and the middle and high schools s
hould get out later.
10:15 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
concerned about impact of driving students has on traffic safety
10:18 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
middle schools start between 8:10-8:30; High schools start between 9:00 - 9:30
10:46 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
7.50 am is too early - bus would hve to come too early and younger kids would ha
ve to eat and be organized too early. However 8.30 - 8.55am start of day seems m
ore reasonable.
11:07 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
I'm all for startig the jr. and high schools later but I do not want the elemena
tary schedule to change. I have elem. school children and the school start time
is just right - 9:05am I would be very unhappy if they had to go to school ear
lier. They need their sleep too.
11:38 PM Sunday, June 08, 2008
Ensuring that elementary schools in high rush-hour traffic areas (like Colvin Ru
n via Rt. 7 East) have the latest possible bell time, so that no elementary scho
ol child is boarding a bus prior to sunrise. I'm not sure if that is possible to
accomodate all those such elementary schools, in which case, this is not a feas
ible option and I would prefer the current schedule. See #13 for more feedback.
In general I agree that it would be good not to have the MS & HS kids up so ea
rly in the morning - but putting the younger kids in a more stressful situation
is not the way to solve the problem.
07:34 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
i never had a problen so far,so now both school starting almost same time,we wan
t both of them to not to ride bus any more both going to be teens, at least midd
le school time little bit changing very helpfull
07:47 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Our Elementary start time should be after 8:00 am. We currently have a 7:50 am
start time and it is early for the students who need to be at the bus stop by 7:
15 am
07:58 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
The middle school time is too late.
08:04 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Suggest that high school students start and end the latest (9:20/9:40 to 4/4:30)
. Middle school is short-term, so the least effects on those students to start
earliest.
08:16 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Middle School timings in the proposal are too late. They should be a little earl
ier, similar to the High School schedule.
08:21 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
I supported A(this change is better than no change)- but I would like to see mid
dle school kids get out at4:00- there is to much homework to get out much later.
4:30 would have them returning home between 4:45 and 5:00.
08:26 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
That middle schools adopt the same alternate-day schedule as high schools. Other
wise middle schoolers will be unable to take after-school activities as they wil
l have only a few hours to complete their seven periods of homework before class
the next day. At least with the alternate schedule, they will have an extra day
to complete work.
08:42 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
I do not have a middle school child yet, but when she is in middle school, the s
tart time of 9:20 to 9:40 would be too late to get me to work on time. My daugh
ter is in elementary school now that starts at 8:25. I drop her off at 8:10 and
this is perfect. A later start time for her elementary school would also make
me late to work.
08:45 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
I selected option C. I think all the schools should start earlier. The later s
tart encourages students to stay up later at night because they aren't tired. A
lso, with the early start, working parents can drive students to school enroute
to work - a wonderful bonding opportunity that will be lost.

09:22 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Middle School start time should be closer to high school start time for transiti
onal reasons. Suggest 8:20 start time for high school (end 3:00 to allow for aft
er school activities and not staying up too late for homework)
09:44 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Why not have middle schools start earlier than high schools? The older my teen g
ets, the harder it is for him to get up in the morning.
09:45 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
9:20 - 9:40 is much too late for middle schoolers to start. This will leave ver
y little time for homework and no time for any after-school activities, like spo
rts. Highschoolers should start their days earlies, then middle schoolers and t
he elementary schools should be last on the bussing schedule.
09:56 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Middle school clubs/activities would have a hard time getting time in after scho
ol.
10:07 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
The Middle School start time seems a bit TOO late.
10:24 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Currently, my Colvin Run kids start at 9:15 and get out too late, I do NOT want
them starting later than this.
10:27 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Have elementary students go to school first, then middle and then high school. T
he younger kids get up earlier than the high school kids.
10:31 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
The middle school start time is a bit too late. I would prefer that the start ti
mes for middle and high schools be switched, since high schoolers can generally
handle themselves without supervision in the mornings
10:39 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Thats too late for Middle School. In the winter they might not have much dayli
ght when they come home. The high school times are better.
10:41 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
The middle school times need to be more in font-weight: normal; line with ES and HS start and end tim
es.
10:56 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
Make middle schools start between 8:30 and 8:55
11:06 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
I would have the high school start later -- as late as 10 am
11:15 AM Monday, June 09, 2008
I would suggest flipping the recommended start times so that the high school sch
edule begins at the later time of 9:20.
12:03 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Give high schoolers the latest start time.
12:08 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Most elementary schools start between 8:55 and 9:20am.
12:17 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
end time of 4:30 for middle school is too late.
12:18 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Making middle school start times earlier.
12:26 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
start high school later than middle school
12:30 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Having the middle schools start a little earlier.
12:35 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
middle school is too late
01:21 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Get more buses and be done with this. Middle school starts too late. We have t
o travel from Vienna to Longfellow that means my kids won't be home in time for
dinner with school ending at 4:30 and rush hour traffic they won't be home until
5:30. Also factoring in the Metro being built in Tysons and you're looking at
a mess that late in the day.
02:32 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Later start times and later end times are better for all 3 levels of schools. L
ess time to get into trouble after school for older kids. Also, if elementary s
chools get out earlier, it will fall during my infant/toddler's nap times & caus
e me problems for pickup as a walker.
02:38 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I think consistent times for all three (HS,MS,ES)would be the most appropriate.
I grew up going to schools which started at 9:00am and ended at 3:30pm everyday
from elementary through high school. The schedule was consistent and my parent
s could juggle all five of their children with predictability, especially once w
e were in the "dangerous" period of 12 years to 18 years old. We all had free a
fternoon care at the school until 5:15pm (supervised homework time, then arts an
d crafts). With all of the taxes we pay in Fairfax County and the State Lottery
system that supplements the schools, why can't that be the case here? Both of
us work, so we alternate who will drop the kids off on our way out. If the chil
dren get out too early there is NOBODY to watch them until after 5:00pm. Most p
arents work traditional hours and must commute a long time. Why doesn't the sch
ool system keep that in mind? Turning our kids out onto the streets too early i
n the day just begs for bad choices while unsupervised.
02:38 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Middle school start and end earlier
03:03 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
While 7:30 may be too early for some High School Students, I think the 8:35 is t
oo late. A better choice is around 8:00. What would be impact to after school
sports or if a student worked?
03:58 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
everyone starts between 8am and 9am
04:02 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I like the idea of later start times for high school but wouldn't want any earli
er start time for my elementary school child. I
04:37 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Start for middle school too late.
04:53 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I would start middle school earlier to help working parents get to work and also
have the kids home earlier to not interfere with after school activities.
05:19 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I would prefer the Middle Schools to start along with the High Schools so they w
ouldn't end so late in the day (hampering after-school and family activities).
05:23 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Middle School should start earlier. 9:20 is too late.
05:25 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I think the later start times will be easier, but I am concerned that high schoo
lers and middle schoolers will not have enough time for after school activities/
sports and homework.
05:25 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I have a child who is a sleeper. As it is, I have to drag him out of bed at 8am
after nearly 12 hours in bed. If the current schedule continues, MS and HS wil
l be an absolute nightmare. At the same time, 7:55 is, of course, far too early
for ES. I have a 4-year-old now and can't imagine how we would get him out the
door for that. Most importantly, though, no child should ever, ever be out wai
ting for the bus in the dark. We tell women not to be out alone in the dark, bu
t then we send our children out. It's irrational. I only somewhat jokingly say
we're going to homeschool for HS because our neighbour is out waiting for the b
us at 6:30am to go to Frost. That's an hour and a half before I can even get my
son to wake up! Then, she's dropped off at the school only to have to wait out
side for the doors to open. Frost and Woodson should definitely start later but
Mantua should maintain its schedule, or start slightly later. Kids need their
sleep! Pardon the pun, but that's just elementary.
05:48 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
High school should start last. Don't let sports dictate academics.
05:49 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Elementary kids starting school at 7:50 means little kids standing at dark bus s
tops --sometimes unsupervised -- at 7 am. This is a safety issue!
08:45 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Switch High School and Middle School. Some extra-curricular clubs could meet be
fore school in HS.
08:57 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Try to get middle schoolers to start earlier and to get out earlier --
09:10 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I think this change is vital, especially for middle and high school-aged childre
n. The later the better for them...so this looks like a very workable compromise
.
08:09 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Start high school later
06:01 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I would make middle school start times earlier. If this is truly not possible d
ue to bus schedules, I would support the given times.
06:24 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Middle school could be just a bit earlier, but would prefer this schedule to an
earlier one.
06:26 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Middle school start by 9:00
06:43 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Doesn't leave much time for after-school activities for middle schoolers. We hav
e to stop letting the bus schedule drive our entire educational system! There ar
e plenty of people out of work who could learn to drive a school bus. We need to
make more buses and more drivers a priority so we are not so dependent upon sta
ggering the bus schedules.
07:35 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
our middle school shares a bus with the high school- can't be too much of a gap
in start times- dead time with nothing for the middle school kids to do. Also-
going from a 7:20 start to 8:55 seems extreme. Why not 8:00?? There has to be t
ime in the afternoon for activities as well- most of the kids are involved in so
mething and if there is only an hour of light after school in the winter, that i
sn't enough time for most. Most impostantly, both are extremes. If the real pr
oblem is that there aren't enough buses to start school on a decent schedule FOR
THE BEST INTERESTS OF THE KIDS, we need to invest in more buses, not continue t
o juggle the schedules where at least one group of kids gets a crappy schedule.
07:39 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I think the proposed schedule is MUCH better than the current one, and if change
s cannot be made to the proposal I would support it. I would prefer, however, t
hat you make the high school start later, closer to 9 am. If necessary, perhaps
the middle school should start earlier to accomodate this change.
08:12 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Definitely the latest starting time possible for all school levels. And having
longer lunch breaks!
08:47 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
It just seems like a late start time for middle schoolers.
09:19 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
Middle School should start around 9:00
09:33 PM Monday, June 09, 2008
I still think a 9:20 start time for elementary school kids is too late.
12:09 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I think that the high school kids should start latest
12:11 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
There does not seem to be a good compromise. It is very hard to wake up my child
ren in the morning but I also don't want them home at 4:30 just in time for dinn
er.
12:39 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I would have the Middle Schools start between 8:35 and 8:55am and have the High
Schools start between 9:20 and 9:40am.
05:46 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Why would you have middle schools ending after elementary school? Not a good sol
ution
06:04 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I think High Schoolers need more sleep. I would like their start time closer to
the middle school time.
07:47 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
High schools should start later than Middle Schools.
08:04 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
High schools should start latest (9:20-9:40). They go to bed latest and sleep l
atest. Also, easier for them to get to school by themselves in the morning if n
ecessary (no need for morning SACC). Middle schools should start between 8:35-8
:55. They need to get home earlier and have more home time, because they go to
bed earlier than high schoolers. Also helps minimize potential increase in SACC
morning needs if working parents can drop kids off at school earlier. Most peo
ple need to be at work before 9:40!
08:11 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Starting High School later and leave Middle School starting time as it is right
now. High schoolers need more sleep or better, have a different sleeping pattern
. Middle Schoolers are just in the transition of this pattern and most of the ch
ildren are ok with getting up this early. Also, my experience is from another co
untry in Europe where we ALL started at the same time (8:35 a.m.). You have to c
onsider the homework load that is much more in Middle School than in Elementary
School. Also, the children NEED FREETIME - the brain doesn't work if you can't f
eed it oxygen - many children in ES and MS have some kind of a sport activity af
ter school. If you shift the starting hours, children will get less activities t
hat result in the lack of physical education!!!
08:25 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I would like to see middle school start closer to the high school time. This gi
ves students a chance to adjust to the high school schedule. Also, if middle sc
hool students are involved in any type of activity (band, sports, etc.) ending t
he day at 4:30 (meaning they may not get home until 5:00) could seriously impact
homework time as it relates to these other activities. Especially if middle sc
hool students are not on a block schedule and could potentially have homework fo
r 7 classes in one night.
08:32 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Middle Schools start earlier than 9:20 but not as early as they currently start.
09:16 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Elementary schools starting any later than 8:30 is too late. It's hard enough to
fit homework and any activities in between the end of school and bedtime as it
is. Getting out any later would make that too rough on the children, especially
as the amount of homework increases.
09:21 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Switch the starting times for high schools and middle schools.
09:41 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Middle School starting that late would cause a problem with both parents working
and needing to be out of house by 8am.
10:00 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Middle schools should be on the same schedule as the high schools.
10:05 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I'd prefer that elementary school not start at 7:50a. I'd prefer a start time no
earlier than 8:30a.
10:29 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Have all high schools start between 8:15-8:45 and end between 3 and 3:20.
10:38 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
You have the youngest children getting home first, which leaves parents who depe
nd on older kids in the lurch.
10:41 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
My son swims 4:30-6:30 am -- we barely make it to school on time, but if school
started later, he wouldn't be able to make the afternoon practices.
10:50 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Starting the middle schools between 9;20 and 9:40 is too late in the morning.
10:50 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Ending later than 4:00 pm would negatively impact sports, afternoon religious sc
hool, music etc. By the time the bus gets home, there would be insufficient tim
e for other activities. However between these choices, I would pick the later s
tart time, and later release time.
11:41 AM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
You've jumped from having middle school start @ 7:20 to 9:20. That doesn't work
for working parents. How about meeting in the middle somewhere?
12:18 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Early start times for elementary school. Louise Archer starts at 9:15. There i
s no SAAC. This is impossible for working parents.
12:20 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Shortening the time for lunch in middle school. It could be a 25 minute break i
n between, before or after the middle period of the day. In that way, the child
ren would finish their school day 30 minutes earlier. Middle schoolers need the
ir sleep, and they will learn better if they can start later. Children who need
extra help can come /before/ school, rather than staying afterwards.
12:20 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Switch the Middle School and High School Start times. Start all elementary scho
ols before 9am.
12:44 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
the late buses should be running on other days i nteh week, not just mondays.
12:49 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I think the high school students should start school later than any other group.
They have more homework and also sports practices. They also need the most sl
eep
12:51 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
late buses should be given on other days as well as mondays
02:42 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I wouldn't make Middle school start so late. I think they could do an earlier s
hift b/c it is only two years and academics count, but do not influence where th
ey will be accepted to college!
02:56 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Ideally the middle schools would startby 9:00am and end by 3:30pm.
03:04 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Middle school students shouldn't start before elementary.
03:12 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
My elementary aged kids like to sleep later. But middle school would end so lat
e. I'm not sure.
03:27 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Elementary Schools should be let out the latest, because they have the least aft
er school activities and homework to get done. Letting out the older kids later
would end up making them stay up later doing homework, and that would be detreme
ntal, not beneficial. However, high schools are certainly starting too early. Wh
ile I do not think they should be starting at 9, maybe it would be better for th
em to start between 7:20-8 rather than just 7:20.
03:41 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
PLEASE consider the working parent. I'm FORCED to pay outrageous money to SACC
simply because bus pick up is not until 8:40a.m. Work starts at 8:00!!! The MS
and HS kids are older and, by law, can stay home alone in the mornings.
03:44 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
With the very late start in middle school I would be unable to assist my child i
n preparing for school as I would be at work. Conversely, the late start also m
eans he would be able to get more sleep and spend less time alone in the afterno
ons before I get home from work. I do see potential problems with after school p
rograms at the middle school level as that would cut into the dinner hour and ho
mework time for many families.
03:51 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Start the middle schools earlier so they can get out earlier. 4 pm is too late f
or middle schoolers to get out of school and have time to get homework done. Sta
rting later does not mean 9:20. That's practically mid-morning.
03:55 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I wish Middle Schools could also start and end about the time proposed for High
Schools
03:56 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Somehow have the middle schools start during the same time span as the high scho
ols.
03:58 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
It would be nice if all schools could start at the same time. Probably impossib
le with the bus situation.
04:15 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Middle school time is too late. Currently middle school and high school students
ride the same bus and the same time. Recommend keeping concurrent schedules fo
r Woodson pyramid for middle and high school.
04:16 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Elementary school should end after high school. School should end the same time
everyday - not early on Monday.
04:23 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
High Schools start at 8 am so that there is time after school for sports or part
time jobs.
04:26 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Give High School the Elementary schedule, give Middle Scholl the High School Sch
edule, give Elementary the Middle School schedule.
04:27 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Switch middle school with elementary school. Middle schoolers have more homewor
k and need more afternoon time.
04:38 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
elementary students need to start earlier
04:42 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Swap start times for high school and middle school - high school start 9.20 and
middle school start 8.35
04:42 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
i realize the schools need to share buses, but the middle schoolers don't need t
o go to school two hours later than they do now! all we're looking for is to not
get up in the dark!!!
04:50 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I don't think the high and middle school schedules need to be adjusted quite so
far. Middle school end time is very late in the day.
05:04 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
high schools to start between 9:20 and 9:40; middle school, between 8:35 and 8:5
5
05:51 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I'm concerned about middle school students starting that much later. My concern
is that many working parents might head off to work before their middle school c
hild has left for school. That concerns me for this age group. However, I fully
support the efforts to change the start times for the middle school and high sch
ools - thank you very much for the efforts to do this.
05:54 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
4 to 4:30 is late--makes it hard for the students to participate in after school
activities, have dinner with the family and do homework consistently.
06:06 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
The middle school buses will be in the rush hour traffic and it would be hard to
schedule after school activities after 5pm.
06:33 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
The high schools should have the latest start time of 9:20. The entire schedule
should just be reversed from the existing schedule.
06:51 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
in the winter months the elementary would be at bus stops in the dark, not too s
afe. all year long the high schools would be out too late, serious conflicts wit
h after school sports/music/programs. is it possible to adjust the school day ac
ademic schedult itself to meet required academic hours and not make drastic chan
ges, ie...shorter breaks between classes, shorter lunch, shorter electives class
hours, etc...
07:42 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
can middle school and hi school be on the same schedule.....getting home at 4:30
means getting home in the dark during winter
08:30 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Middle doesn't need to start so late. But better than earlier.
08:31 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I liked my high school schedule which started at 8:20am and ended at 3:10pm!
08:46 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
If middle school ends so late, what would happen to the after school schedule? M
y child coming home at 6:30???
09:02 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Enter at 8:20, end at 3:20. One hour later than currently
09:40 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
BOTH High school AND Middle school should start 1 hour later than the current sc
hedule (between 8-830am). Let all elementary schools start after 9am.
10:11 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I believe that it would be better for High School students to start between 9:20
and 9:40 and better for Middle School students to start between 8:35 and 8:55.
10:38 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
I think the Middle school starting/ending time is too late as my daughter curren
tly has almost an hour bus ride and could be getting home as late as 5:30. That
does not allow for much homework time nor sports or other activities. I don't
envision that my kids would be staying up any later so would only allow 4 hours
in the evening for HW, dinner, actvities.
10:40 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
Both High School and Middle School should start a bit later, but more in the 8 a
m to 8:30 am range. Sports practices would be dramatically impacted in Middle S
chool with ending times at 4 pm till 4:30 pm, which would mean teens would not b
e home and available for sports, extracurricular activities and homework until 5
or 5:30 pm. This is too late. Additionally, I think starting elementary school
s before 8:15-8:30 is absurd. Kids at that age need a good deal of sleep also a
nd they, too, have lots of activities and homework that keep them up.
11:09 PM Tuesday, June 10, 2008
That is way too late for the middle school to start because then they get home t
oo late. My son plays baseball and they need to get to the fields by 5:00. The
re would be no time for homework. The other end times are fine, but the middle
schoolers HAVE to get home earlier than 5:00 - unacceptable.
12:43 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Middle schools should start earlier and end earlier to accomodate for extracurri
cular activities.
06:42 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
switch the middle school and high school times
07:27 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
high school and middle schools should start at the same time (8:35-8:55 am)
07:37 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
I have concerns about how much time there would be after school for extra-curric
ular activities AND the large homework-loads high school and middle school stude
nts have.
07:38 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Middle school dismissal is too late in the day!
07:56 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
The High School kids are more difficult to get up in the morning than Middle Sch
ool children. The high school aged kids should begin their day last
09:07 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
High schools should start at 9:00 a.m. or later.
06:48 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Middle Schools need to start earlier -- 9:20 and 9:40 starts are way too late fo
r a working parent and there is no SACC in middle school. I really prefer the cu
rrent schedule to one where middle school starts this late.
07:19 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Switch high school and middle school schedule
07:31 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
The high schools should start the latest then the middle schools, then elementar
y. ps it shouldn't be about what is convenient for us...it's about the health o
f the students
09:18 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
I would prefer to have middle schools start 8:35-8:55 and have high school start
the latest, 9:20-9:40. I hear it is high school students who have the most tro
uble falling asleep in the evening and getting up in the morning. But anything
that makes high school and middle school start later is preferable to the early
start times they have now.
09:24 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
I would prefer to have middle schools start 8:35-8:55 and have high school start
the latest, 9:20-9:40. I hear it is high school students who have the most tro
uble falling asleep in the evening and getting up in the morning. But anything
that makes high school and middle school start later is preferable to the early
start times they have now.
09:25 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008

04:46 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
middle school should start before high school. Trim the FCPS beaucracy and buy
more buses!
09:28 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
HIGH SCHOOL TO START BETWEEN 7:45 AM AND 8:15 AM, GIVE THEM AN EXTRA 20 MINUTES,
SO THEY'RE BEING PICKED UP AROUND 6:45 OR SO INSTEAD OF 6:20
09:38 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Start Middle school and High School at about the same times
09:41 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Ending times too late.
10:10 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Middle school starting time should be later than 7:30am.
10:12 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Middle school to start a little earlier.
10:13 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
switch the middle school and high school times
10:24 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Middle and High school students should start later in the morning.
10:39 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Elementary kids can go to school earlier. My 3 kids were early morning risers u
ntil they reached highschool.
10:43 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Switching the high school start time with the middle school start time in he Tra
nsportatio Task Force's bell schedule recommendation, since middle school studen
ts seem to be able to cope with the earlier time better than high school student
s.
10:45 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
switch middle and high school start times
10:49 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Make the high schools start latest, not middle schools.
11:32 AM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Don't mind the proposed change(s) but my concern is with TRAFFIC! What impact wi
ll this have on traffic? I don't want any changes if this means I'll sit in more
traffic....
01:27 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Have Middle School students start before the High School students.
01:38 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Loudounn County High Schools start later around 8:50 or later, and are released
at 3:38pm. They have successfully done this for years w/o major issues!
01:49 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
the elementary school range is very broad. currently my kids first bell is arou
nd 9am. I would not want it to start any later that that. I think the earlier
the better since little kids are generally up earlier in the morning.
02:04 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
The Middle School start times are too late. It would be better to push it up by
half hour
03:02 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Any schedule that starts before 8:30 am is too early for Elementary schools.
03:29 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Middle school schedule should be similar to high school schedule. Elementary sc
hools can start as late as 9:40.
03:29 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
I think that this Middle School schedule negatively impacts working parents as c
hildren may be left alone due to parents having to leave for work prior to the s
tart time of middle school.
03:54 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
We live very far from the high school. I would support this change but not if i
t calls for a readjustment of boundaries due to rush hour traffic.
04:01 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
No elementary schools start after 8:30
04:30 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Middle and high school students start school to early in the morning. With so m
any activities after school they do not have enough time to rest and study. The
y should start school later. Elementary children should start definitely later.
05:23 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
For elementary schools, starting at 7:50 is too early. I understand the need fo
r balance and the use of school buses, but for younger children, that does not p
rovide a lot of flexibility for those who still need a good deal of sleep. Howe
ver, the start time for the high schools seems much more reasonable.
06:40 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Starting middle school -or any school after 9:20 am seems awful late and by the
time they get home, leaves almost no time to decompress after school before dinn
er and homework starts up. Our middle school kids and high school kids travel o
n the same bus now and if possible, I think it would be best if they started whe
n the high school kids do.
09:40 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Have the high school start latest. High school students have the most difficult
time getting up.
09:44 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
middle school should start a little earlier, since any after school activity wou
ld mean a very late time to be having dinner
09:55 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
Younger children actually still need more rest, older kids participate in after
school activities such as sports and work and watching siblings
10:41 PM Wednesday, June 11, 2008
It really depends on what is done with my specific schools. I have two children
in different elementary schools which makes it challenging. One child requires
Before/After school care because of the earlier ending time and I cannot get ho
me from work in time. For my older child, he rides the bus and it is a longer d
ay for him and therefore I am able to get home when he gets home. If his schedu
le changed to getting home much earlier it would be tough for me to manage witho
ut needing childcare which would be an additional expense. The question is tou
gh to answer without know what the change would be to my schools. I do think th
at the teens have to get up much too early and support a schedule change.
12:24 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
High School should start after Middle School.
06:12 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
Middle School start times are too late. How are working parents going to supervi
se their students in the morning?
07:25 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
I think that Middle School is too late. Many kids would not be able to particip
ate in after school activities this late. I do not think Elementary schools sho
uld start before 8am.
08:00 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
Shorter school day - longer school year
09:05 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
Start the middle school at the same time as the high school as currently exists
at Frost Middle School and Woodson High School since they use the same buses
09:26 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
middle school could start at the same time high school does as it is now.
09:43 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
I know Middle schools have lots of after school activities so how would this lat
er schedule impact those?
09:58 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
middle schools should start/end at the same time as high schools
10:42 AM Thursday, June 12, 2008
Anything the school board can do to alter the start time of high school students
to later in the morning would have a very positive impact on the children who n
ow are riding at least 30 minutes on a school bus from the Oak Hill area to Oakt
on High School. Our school buses come at 6:10am.
12:10 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
9:20 is late to start. Young kids would just watch TV in the am, and hard on wo
rking parents. Much better than current schedule, but optimally every school wo
uld start by 9 am.
12:21 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
High school start times should be the latest. Elementary the earliest and middl
e school inbetween
12:46 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
i think the HS start time is better than middle school start time. It will also
have alot to do with distance and commute time to that school. I think startin
g at 9:40 is very late.
01:08 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
I would have the High Schools starting during the latest time slot.
01:37 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
I would flip the middle and high school schedules so that MS would start between
8:35 and 8:55 and HS would start between 9:20 and 9:40
01:55 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
This is an improvement, but start elementary schools later, too.
03:42 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
The Middle Schools would start too late and get out too late to get to sports an
d other activities/jobs on time. Now Cooper MS only starts ten minutes after Lan
gley which is convenient for dropping off and picking up children by car. A larg
er difference in start times would be a problem. The start time for HS should be
8:20 and MS can be 8:30--just an hour later than now.The elementary schools can
be adjusted around these times.
04:20 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
I support the high school children starting later but, middle schools starting a
t 9:40 make it impossible for working parents.
04:38 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
Possibly reverse Middle School and High School start times or fix the window for
Middle School start - 9:40 seems late
04:38 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
After school activities - especially sports need to be considered, especially fo
r the Fall when it gets dark early. Soccer and other outdoor activities often s
tart at 4:00 PM and a later school day would impact students ability to have a w
ell rounded day with studies and sports.
10:05 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
You need to clarify the situation regarding Robinson and other "secondary" schoo
ls, where grades 7-12 are all together. Will you make two bus runs -- one for m
iddle school, one for high school? I agree with later start times, but this is
an important question to answer before I can give full support to the current pr
oposal.
10:11 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Ending at 4:30 (middle schools) would make it difficult for kids to participate
in sports, scouts, etc. This may not apply to kids who attend secondary schools.
05:55 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
The later start for the Middle and High School is good, however, the earlier sta
rt for Elementary is a problem
05:58 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
High schools should starts last
06:37 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
Ending at 4:30 is too late for younger kids. The high school and earlier element
ary time is good.
07:45 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
The middle school must end latest by 4 pm or even better between 3:30 to 3:45 pm
so that child can be home by 4:30 pm, rest for about an 1-2 hours and still has
2-3 hours to finish assignments/home work of GT centerspeially.
07:52 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
If I had a middle schooler I would prefer that they start earlier than 9:20 - pr
obably by 8:30.
09:21 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
No child should have to be picked up at 6am!
09:23 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
middle school start is too late
09:24 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
I support later start times for older children, but CRES's current 3:55 end allo
ws me to ajust my work schedule to pick my son up and not put him in afterschool
child care. So I do not support earlier end times for elementary schools.
09:30 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
that high schools would start later than middle schools
10:24 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
Start middle schools before 9 am. After 9 am gets them home too late to do a fu
ll night of homework. Why can't middle and high schoolers ride the same buses?
10:51 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
High schools could start between 7:50 and 8:55, middle schools could start betwe
en 8:35 and 8:55, and elementary schools could start between 9:20 and 9:40. Mid
dle and High schools students need less sleep and have more after school activit
ies. Middle school students need more help getting ready and off to school, the
refore should start second. Elementary students need 10 - 12 hours of sleep, ne
ed the most help getting ready and off to school, and have fewer after school ac
tivities, therefore should start latest.
10:52 PM Thursday, June 12, 2008
I think middle schools start too late.
07:06 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
I like the fact that highschool starts later but middle school starts too late w
ith the proposed schedule
07:07 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
I would have Middle School starting earlier than 9:20. I realize busing is a pr
oblem, but maybe depot busing could help make the bus times more reasonable.
08:07 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
Even having some elementary schools start at 9:20 and end at 4:00 is too latev e
specially for the afternoon.
09:11 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
Is there any way to flip the middle and elementary school schedules, but still n
ot have any school begin before 7:50 am? I suggest this b/c middle school stude
nts are more likely than elementary school students to have weekday afterschool
sports.
09:11 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
I would like to know how it would impact after-school time with teachers and aft
er school activities.
09:58 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
Work on better bus routes so the kids don't have to get picked up so early
10:20 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
I would like to see all the grades closer to 8:30-3:15 to avoid 4:30 traffic and
to get to sports, however this is still much better than the 5:20 wake up that
my 7th grader has now! The lack of sleep has impacted both children (bus comes 6
:20 and 6:50). They are never able to get to sleep early enough.
10:25 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
It would like to see all of the elementary schools start no earlier than 8:20 AM
.
10:30 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
Getting out at 4pm or later and having a 45 minute to an hour busride is too lat
e due to sports activities. Schools should end by 3:30pm at the latest. Bus ri
des are too long.
10:51 AM Friday, June 13, 2008
Start HS and MS 1/2 hour earlier - for kids with after school activities. But I
realize this may not work with the current bus situation. How do other big sch
ool districts do this?!
12:03 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
middle schools must end earier to accommodate orthodontic appts, sports and musi
c after school.
12:09 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
Middle and High School needs to start later.
12:26 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
No school should start before 8:30 am. During the winter it is dangerous to hav
e children waiting at the bus stop in the dark. All waiting times should be coo
rdinated so that no child should be outside before the sun comes up. Also if th
ere is inclement weather, with the sun shining and temperature start to rise, th
ere is less possiblity of children slipping and falling on ice and snow.
12:47 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
Starting middle school at after 9:20 AM is late than we would like given that we
both work.
01:32 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
Middle School start times need to be earlier. The late start time places an unf
air burden on working parents who need to be at work by 0800/0830. While some 1
3 year olds may be equipped to wake themselves up in the morning, get dressed an
d off to school, that is not the case for all 13 or even 14 year olds. If FCPS
were to go to a late Middle School bell, they need to factor in some sort of bef
ore school care (like SACC) for those kids who need it.
02:26 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
For the middle schools to have the same time as the high schools (8:35 - 8:55am)
or if that is not possible for the high schools to get the later time of 9:20 -
9:40 am.
03:02 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
I'm concerned about the early elementary start times. I fully support the later
middle and high school later start times.
03:35 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
Complete reversal would be better: Elem starts first, then MS, then High School
04:48 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
I would not like my child to be in SACC that early in order for me to get to my
school.
04:55 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
start high school later-the kids are exhausted
05:00 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
The middle school starts too late. If these are the only time options, then I t
hink this suggested option is best.
05:51 PM Friday, June 13, 2008
I think High School should start the latest - but if that isn't possible then I
would support them starting at 8.35
08:10 AM Saturday, June 14, 2008
My soon to be middle schooler no longer has morning SACC. This very late middle
school schedule would meant that I would NOT be home to get him to the bus. This
is VERY Bad because he would be home alone for almost 2 hours in the morning. I
t would be better to have the elementary kids start later because at least they
have morning SACC.
11:09 AM Saturday, June 14, 2008
Start Middle School around 8:35 as well, aligning it generally with the new high
school schedule (as is the case currently). This is preferable even if some mo
re elementary schools would start on the earlier schedule because of bus schedul
es.
11:44 AM Saturday, June 14, 2008
earlier start for middle school students; need afternoon time to do homework, af
terschool activities and decompress
11:13 PM Saturday, June 14, 2008
Middle schools start same time as High schools
o late.
10:23 AM Wednesday, June 18, 2008
My rising 7th grader will need to catch a bus at 6.30 which is too early, but no
t starting school until 9.20 would be worse. I am a working mother and could no
t wait until 9 or later for my child to get on a school bus. My preference woul
d be for buses to be earlier but not at 6.30 am. Also, I would not want my elem
entary student to be going to school any later for the same reason. I wouldn't
be getting to work until closer to 10 am and that would mean leaving a lot later
in the evenings.
09:22 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
I think 4:30 is too late for MS to end because it doesn't allow time for after s
chool activities, homework, etc.
09:29 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
start at 8:10 and end at 2:45 to accommodate after school activities.
09:30 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Question 4 did not function properly in Firefox 3. My answer is "No".
09:32 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
I don't want middle & high schoolers benefit at the expense of elementary kids.
09:49 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
High school students should start the latest. The teenage circadian rhythms make
them unable to fall asleep early and get up early. I believe that BOTH middle s
chool and high school need to start between 9:20 and 9:40. My kids are unhealthy
because of this inhumane school schedule! Please, please change it! Their grade
s and health are both suffering because of it!!
09:49 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Ending at 430 leaves too little time to do homework, etc before evening sports o
r other activities begin
ts who work and must be at work by 0800-0830. Elementary school times are good r
ight now (820 start - 7:50 pickup)
09:50 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
3:15 seems to be the absolute latest because kids on sports teams already have t
o stay till 6 pm
09:50 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
If elem schools could start at 7:50 nder the proposed plan BUT high schools can'
t start at 7:50 now and get the transportation done???? why the 7:20 start time
s now?
10:17 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
I think the middle school start/end times are too late. It would have a negativ
e impact on after school sports and activities. While it would not be ideal for
middle school students, given the necessity of arranging bus schedules, I think
middle schools should have the earliest start times. Most middle school-aged c
hildren are not yet staying up late due to normal sleep patterns.
10:19 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
The middle school schedule seems late. Also, for the secondary schools, would t
he middle and high schools start at different times?
10:27 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
I don't think the elementary schools should get out before 3:00.
10:27 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Middle Schools starts at the projected high school time.
10:42 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Schools should not start prior to 8:30 a.m.
10:54 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
I like the new starting times for the High School, but would want all the elemen
tary schools to start between 7:50 am and 8:55 am. I think getting out of schoo
l at 4pm is too late.
10:55 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Do not want the time changed!!!!!!!!!
10:56 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Start high school from 7:30-8am
10:59 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Middle school start is too late.
11:06 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Have the middle schools start and end at the same time as the high schools
11:15 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
8:20 start gives a full extra hour of sleep
11:23 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
The start and end times for middle school seems a little late.
11:32 PM Thursday, June 19, 2008
Any school that would get out after 3:30 would not give enough time to students
after they get home for homework dinner and free time. I really feel 4 or 4:30 i
s too late to get out of school. This would put some children home after 5:30 at
night depending on bus and walk times. I think this would be hardest for my you
ngest who needs time to be with her parents in the evening and be able to play a
nd be a child.
12:07 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
end school earlier in the day for more activities
01:57 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
that middle school starts earlier than high school but keep the high school time
between 8:35am and 8:55am
04:02 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
the ending time should not be pushed back, shorten the classes
05:59 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
High school/middle school start time between 8 - 8:15
06:17 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
9:00 AM for All, these decisions should not be based on budget but on human grow
th and development-research shows that this is the optimal time for these age gr
oups (middle and high school)
06:35 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
An 8:00 - 3:00 school day would be better for HS and MS... Keep HS and MS togeth
er in times
08:59 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Start time around 8am, to accomodate after school activities
11:11 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
High School should start later than middle school
11:23 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Both of my kids are on the bus for 50 minutes. That's too long. White Oaks alr
eady starts 9am. There's not enough time to do HW before sports practice and ot
her after-school activities. My son would prefer ES to start at 8:45am. Defini
tely not later than 9am.
11:23 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
The middle school that I work at now starts only 10 minutes or so after the high
school and the kids ride together on the bus, so if high school would start aro
und the times suggested, why would the middle schools be so much later?
07:13 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Have to balance arrival times so older kids are home before younger kids in same
district for childcare. SACC never has enough spaces and not everyone makes en
ough money to afford to pay for childcare.
07:18 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
no later start than 8:30, otherwise sports activities and such will be negativel
y affected.
07:36 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
I think high school and middle school should be on the same time schedule as the
y are now. With them being in the same building (Robinson) it makes more sence
then having to run busses twice to the same school.
07:52 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
I think school should start 8:30 for the little kids and 9:00 for the MS/HS. En
d at 4 pm for all. These school schedules do not take into account that most wo
rking parents need to work at least 8 hours and commute 1 hour each way. There s
hould be more overlap in the schedule.
08:13 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Slightly earlier start time for middle schoolers. How would parents get to work
on time if kids don't leave home until 9:00 am or so?
08:15 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Start HS at 8:00-8:15, adjust others as necessary
08:16 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Start HS as indicated, but don't change ES or MS - especially don't like MS sche
dule (too late start and end)
08:35 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
I think the High School time is to late. For some parents they have to leave the
house before 7 am to get to work and leaving our high schoolers at home would n
ot work.
08:46 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Start the high school even later--pick up those students after the elementary ki
ds-- say around 10am. The high school kids would go from 10-6pm. Any sports pr
actices, clubs, etc. could meet from 8am till 10am in the mornings.
09:07 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Middle schools should have similar schedules to high schools.
09:11 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Would want to know how schools like Robinson are handled - would MS and HS start
times be the same - if so, this plan is good.
09:11 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Secondary Schools that have a middle school should be on HS schedule.
09:16 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
START AT 9:00 eND AT 3:00
09:17 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Most of the students in high/middle school are involved in extracurricular activ
ities. The suggested schedule will not allow any time for them to have any brea
thing time. In addition, it will push their homework and staying up time even l
ater.
09:27 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
I would think Middle School and High Schools could start at the same schedule, 8
:35 am - 8:55 am
09:31 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
I would still make the highschool schedule start first
09:31 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
The ending time is to late if talking 3:45 and 4:30. Doesn't allow for after sc
hool appts so that children don't need to miss instructions during the day. Per
haps keeping stop times but increasing the overall school year days to make up f
or the shorter days (shorter summer breaks).
09:34 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
I like that the middle schools start later, but it is too late. 9pm should be th
e latest they should start.
09:41 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
I think the middle school and high school should be at the same time at least in
the case where 7-12 are at the same school
09:44 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
middle and high school start times the same when possible
09:45 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Middle schools start the same time as high school so my 12 year old is not home
alone and has someone to get him started on homework when he gets home. My kids
are in sports , getting home from school before 4 will get some of the homework
done before practice.
09:57 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Middle School start time should be same as high school so kids aren't home so la
te
10:00 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
My son currently takes medication injections 3 times a day, one is at home every
day at 2:30 and often has to go get blood work done or have doctor appointments
between 2:30 and 4:00. It is hard to take his medicine to the clinic and to par
k at the school to run in and get him for his appointments. It would push his ev
ening dose to 11 pm. This would be very hard for him. I like him getting out ear
ly, his after school sports start at 3 and end at 5, this would push the hours i
nto the dinner hour and he wouldn't have time to come home and medicate before s
ports.
10:06 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Middle School and High School need to start at the same time.
10:44 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Middle schools should not start so late, better if they are scheduled the same a
s elementary schools.
11:00 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
Have both High School and Middle School start and end on the same time.
11:06 AM Friday, June 20, 2008
If there is a way to have middle school end around the same time as high school,
this would be better. A 4:30 end time would make it difficult to have any afte
r school activities.
10:29 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
Everone should start at the same time, around 8. I realize this is impossible.
12:24 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
middle and high school start later
12:25 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
Start high school about 8-8:15AM and end at 2:45-3PM
12:39 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
We think the high school students should start between 9:20 & 9:40 a.m. & go unt
il 4 - 4:30 p.m..
01:11 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
I'd like to see High Schools starting at 8:55 to 9:20 am time frame
01:15 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
High schools start between 9:20 and 9:40 and end 4-4:30 p.m.
01:59 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
I think that Middle school start is too late - right now 7:20 is too early; howe
ver 9:20 is too late; the children would not have enough time to do homework & h
ave play time & sports. The elementary & high scool start times are fine But th
e Middle school start time is too late.
02:06 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
High school should be the 7:50 am and 8:55 am (end between 2:30 pm and 3:35 pm).
02:22 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
Move it all up a half-hour
02:36 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
I would put high school starting at 9AM, middle school at 8:30 and elem at 8:00,
approx. Loudoun County does this as well as my neice and nephew's school in Ha
nover COunty in Richmond. Ny nephew wrestles and plays football and my neice pl
ays lacrosse and field hockey, both for their high school. They are home by 6:3
0, in time for dinner and homework.
03:23 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
Let the elementary kids go to school early since they are already awake. Let th
e high schoolers start last. In otherwords just reverse the order of the school
start times.
03:51 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
That elementry end a little later than the high school.
03:57 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
All schools should start between 7:45-9 a.m. and dismiss between 2:45-4 p.m. Th
is would allow students plenty of sleep and still leave time for after school ac
tivities. Another option would be to shorten the amount of time between class c
hanges at the middle/high school level so that school could start later, for exa
mple 5-7 minutes between classes.
04:05 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
8:35 is too late. Somewhere around 7:50 8:00 am would be good
04:29 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
I would switch the start times for middle school and high school, but I think th
at both options are much better than what we have now.
05:11 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
Middle schools should start between 8:35 and 8:55 and high schools should start
between 9:20 and 9:40
05:36 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
I am concerned that you will make our elementary students start earlier. This w
ould have a very negative impact on their health. We need to find a way to keep
all our students healthy. All children need sleep. This should be a priority
even if it costs us more money. You can't put a price tag on our children's hea
lth.
05:54 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
7:50 is Too Early. Elementary should never start before 8:30!
06:38 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
I think the start time should be closer to 8:00 am to help with the after school
activities schedule.
06:53 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
starts the school 30 minutes later than the normal hour
07:20 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
I think that the middle schoolers and the high schoolers need to keep a consiste
nt start time as previously. I like the 8:35-8:55am start time and 3:15-3:45pm e
nd time. The two different end times and start times would make it tough on my k
ids next year as one is going into middle school and one into high school. The e
nd time of 4-4:30pm is really quite late.
07:51 PM Friday, June 20, 2008
an 8:00 to 2:40 schedule would be best
05:57 PM Saturday, June 21, 2008
Middle schools should start earlier, and high schools start later.
09:20 PM Saturday, June 21, 2008
Elementary, Middle and High Schools could be start around 8:30 a.m.
11:51 PM Saturday, June 21, 2008
middle school time to start too late in my book. They will be getting home aroun
d dinner time. No time for after school activities
07:38 AM Sunday, June 22, 2008
Make sure Middle & High school students get home before Elementary ones.
07:56 AM Sunday, June 22, 2008
High School schedule is fine...middle school is too late. Why can't middle schoo
l start earlier?
09:14 AM Sunday, June 22, 2008
High school starting later is a great idea.
proposed is too late however. Middle school should still start before elementar
y.
they currently start. High School especially is currently starting ridiculousl
y early, and it is bad for the health and performance of our high school childre
n.
10:10 AM Sunday, June 22, 2008
Reverse the schedule between High school and Middle school.
01:19 PM Sunday, June 22, 2008
The middle school start schedule should not be last.
07:50 PM Sunday, June 22, 2008
The elementary should start earlier (even half hour), then shift the others earl
ier, too. But, then switch the middle with the high school - so that it goes el
ementary, then middle, then high school. High schoolers should have less idle/u
nsupervised time, they fall asleep too late, and can't get up -- their schedule
needs to be the latest.
11:50 AM Monday, June 23, 2008
Middle schools should NOT start that late. Ending at 4 or 4:30 is not acceptable
for afternoon activities as well as beginning after 9:00 am is too late.
03:43 PM Monday, June 23, 2008
Middle schoole and high school on the same schedule - starting between 8:35 and
8:55. A 9:20-40 start time is TOO LATE!
08:01 PM Friday, June 27, 2008
I think the middle schools should start between 7:50 and 8:55, and the elementar
y schools be the last to start/come home.
04:18 PM Monday, June 30, 2008
Middle School would end no later than 4:00 PM.
12:28 PM Saturday, June 14, 2008
is it possible to have middle and high schools on same above proposed schedule?
Proposed middle school end time doesn't allow enough time for homework.
10:15 PM Saturday, June 14, 2008
It is flatly wrong to optimize middle and high schools bell schedule at the expe
nse of the elementary school's. Yes, it is easier for kids to sleep a little lat
e and get up late too. I think it is more important to elementary school kids th
an older ones. What we should do is to push everyone's bell schedule half an hou
r or one hour late.
10:40 PM Saturday, June 14, 2008
Middle school start and end times are too late. With that schedule, my middle s
chool student wouldn't get home until after 5:00, and there would be virtually n
o time for after-school school-based activities (such as after school make-up an
d help sessions which are now done with late buses on Mondays and Wednesdays)
